Behind a windscreen it felt like a lovely warm day as i traveled down to the saturday ride. steping out in the carpark i felt lucky to have thrown in a base layer at the last minute.
As Lee and Mat Swan came into sight from the cafe Mat seemed to have something stuck on his handlebars, on closer inspection it turned out to be a bivvy and a sleeping bag.I quickly decided not to mention how chilly i felt, as Mat had spent the night sleeping in a hedge!
We set of at a quick pace and began to remember what it is to ride on the south downs in the dry months. Quick progress was made and we soon found ourselves at our normal tea stop distance, where Lee reminded us the tea stop would be at the end much to the surprise of a few.Choclate bars were shared out and on we went. Maybe it was the extra weight of the choclate or just sheer bad luck that made Nic's tyre explode I just dont Know, but all fixed we headed in to the area Lee had said contained some trails he had recently found. These trails didn't disappoint and felt fast and flowy a bit like Friston. With the car park almost in sight Mat's tyre failed and he decided in true Chris Froome style to shoulder the bike and run the rest of the way back to the cafe, and mend it with a cuppa.
A great ride with some lovely trails and a whole more to offer in the future i'm sure.
