The Redhill Raiders is Redhill Cycling Club's own coaching squad for junior riders. It is a Go-Ride club focused on providing coaching in a fun environment for young riders... some of whom go on to greater things!
The Raiders meet fortnightly at Furzefield Primary School which is in Merstham and there is a session once a fortnight for younger riders:
5 - 12 year olds from 12noon to 1pm
If your child would like to receive coaching with the Raiders they will need a bike –any bike – but in working order, a helmet, clothing with no flappy parts on the lower leg that can get snagged by the chain/pedals, mitts (preferably) to protect your hands, a parental consent form (available on the day) and a few coins - the charge is £4 per session to cover our costs but the figure drops to £3 per session if you come by bike rather than by car..
The Raiders is run by John Leitch a British Cycling Level 3 Club Coach who formed this junior cycle squad to teach youngsters in the schools in this area who want to improve their skills on a bike. He is supported by a number of other British Cycling coaches and trainee coaches.
By meeting and riding in a space that is free from traffic, we offer kids the chance to work on bike handling skills. Already, Redhill Raiders riders have gone on to race successfully at junior races at a local and national level. We are confident that if your child has cycling talent, the Raiders can help to spot and develop it.
10 – 16 year olds
We quickly found that older, stronger children wanted to be getting further afield, either on their MTB on a trail, or on their road bike on the quieter lanes in the area.
The frequency of rides to suit children in this age bands depends heavily on whether or not coaches are available.
The Redhill Raiders publish a regular newsletter... see the latest one HERE.
